Individual Therapy
Who I Treat
Individual Therapy
The primary goal of individual therapy is to increase understanding of one’s thoughts and behavior patterns to help increase function and well-being. In therapy, people can learn how to effectively manage stress, interpersonal difficulties and troubling situations. It equips individuals with the tools needed to cope with them more appropriately.
Individual therapy may be short-term (focusing on immediate issues) or long-term (delving into more complex problems). For example, you may be having trouble functioning at work or at home with relationships, having common stressors about life’s routine responsibilities or having flashbacks about past traumas, mania or panic attacks. The number of sessions and the frequency of appointments depends on the individual’s situation.
It can be scary, awkward, intimidating or otherwise uncomfortable to come into therapy…
Whether you’ve been in therapy before or it’s your first time in therapy. You are being challenged to be vulnerable, talk about potential shameful/embarrassing topics and share deep pain or discomfort. But if you break it down, it’s just a conversation. You can share as much or as little as you want at first but eventually you might want to share more. People who get the most out of therapy share intimate details and get honest about their difficulties.
I work with both adults of any age and teens over 16-years-old for individual therapy.
